Parade’s PS176 DisplayPort to HDMI 2.0 converter adopted by Samsung DeX

PS176 converts DisplayPort Alt Mode to HDMI 2.0 for desktop and home entertainment displays supporting up to 4K@60 resolution
Santa Clara, Calif.— 2 May 2017 —Parade Technologies, Ltd. (Taiwan OTC: 4966.TWO), a leading high-speed interface, video display, and touch controller IC supplier, today announced the Samsung DeX utilizes the Parade PS176 DisplayPort to HDMI 2.0 protocol converter.
Like other cutting-edge mobile devices including the latest notebook PCs, the Galaxy S8 and S8+ utilizes the USB-C connector to simultaneous support fast battery charging, USB data, and audio/video output. The audio/video output is provided through DisplayPort Alt Mode which provides support for 4K displays. DeX Station converts the DisplayPort Alt Mode A/V data to the HDMI 2.0 format using the PS176 protocol converter, which drives the HDMI output from the DeX Station.
Parade’s PS176 is a popular solution for stand-alone USB-C to HDMI 2.0 protocol adapters. Such adapters plug into USB-C receptacles that support the DisplayPort Alt Mode function, which includes all Thunderbolt 3 video source devices. The PS176 is also well suited for use in USB-C enabled docking stations. The HDMI output driven by the PS176 is compatible with PC monitors as well as 4K consumer televisions.
By using DisplayPort Alt Mode as the video protocol from its USB-C connector, the device can provide both USB data and 4K video simultaneously. The use of DisplayPort from the S8 USB-C connector also benefits in saving power and cost, and reduces RF interference to maximizing wireless performance.
